CELEBRATIONS FOR THE 7th ANNIVERSARY OF THE PONTIFICAL ELECTION OF POPE BENEDICT XVI

Eucharistical Celebration.

H.E. Mgr. Salvatore Pennacchio, Papal Nuncio in India and Nepal, celebrated the Holy Mass in the large Chapel of the Pontifical Representation with the participation of Ambassadors, Officials, Religious and God’s people. It was the initial and most spiritually intense moment of the celebrations. The Holy Mass was celebrated together with some Indian Cardinals – H.E. Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay and President of the CBCI, who pronounced the homily; H.E. Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi and President of the CCBI; H.E. Cardinal George Alencherry, Archbishop of the Siro-Malabaresi and of Ernakulam; and His Beatitude Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal, Archbishop of the Siro-Malankaresi and of Trivandrum. Besides, there were 5 Metropolitan Archbishop and 17 Bishops, some more priests and 5 Under-Secretary of the CBCI and CCBI.

At the end of the Liturgy, accompanied by Gregorian chants performed by the Polyphonic Chorale “St. Cecilia Choir” of the Archdiocese of Goa, H.E. Mgr. Pennacchio pronounced a short thank you speech and praised the Lord for the High Teaching of Pope Benedict XVI. The apostolic blessing  ended the Sacred Ceremony. A brotherly agape with all the Bishops and some priest followed in the dining room of the Nunciature.


S. E. Mons. Salvatore Pennacchio, Nunzio Apostolico in India, ha presieduto la S. Messa nella spaziosa Cappella della Rappresentanza Pontificia, alla presenza di ambasciatori, alti funzionari pubblici, religiosi e popolo di Dio, ha segnato il momento iniziale – e più intenso spiritualmente – della ricorrenza.  La S. Messa è stata concelebrata dai tre Cardinali indiani in attività – Em.mi Oswald Gracias, Arcivescovo di Bombay e Presidente della CBCI (il quale ha tenuto l’Omelia), Telesphore Toppo, Arcivescovo di Ranchi e Presidente della CCBI, e George Alencherry, Arcivescovo Maggiore dei Siro-Malabaresi e di Ernakulam – da Sua Beatitudine Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal, Arcivescovo Maggiore dei Siro-Malankaresi e di Trivandrum, da altri cinque Arcivescovi Metropoliti e diciassette Vescovi, più alcuni sacerdoti, tra i quali i Sottosegretari della CBCI e della CCBI.

Al termine della Liturgia, accompagnata dal canto gregoriano della Corale polifonica “St. Cecilia Choir” dell’Arcidiocesi di Goa, Mons. Pennacchio ha  tenuto un breve discorso di ringraziamento ai presenti ed elevato la lode al Signore per il dono alla Chiesa e all’umanità dell’Alto Magistero di Papa Benedetto XVI. La Benedizione Apostolica ha concluso il Sacro Rito. È seguita un’agape fraterna con tutti i Vescovi e alcuni presbiteri nella sala da pranzo della Nunziatura, in un clima festoso e fraterno.

 

 


Diplomatic party.

During the night of the same day a diplomatic party was organized in one of the most famous hotel of New Delhi, with the participation of more than 200 guests, Ambassadors and members of the Diplomatic Corps, Officials, Representatives of the Indian society, Bishops and Priests, members of various religious orders. The Honorable K.V. Thomas, of the Minister of State of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, nominated by the Indian Government as “Chief Guest”, was the most important presence of the party. After the performance by the Polyphonic Choral of the Indian and Pontifical Hymns, the Honorable K.V. Thomas presented “the first copy” of a DVD made of music and images related to the Holy See and the High Teaching of Pope Benedict XVI.

The next day, 20 April 2012, the Chorale “St. Cecilia Choir” of the Archdiocese of Goa, directed by Rev. Romeo Monteiro, performed some of the most important sacred songs, belonging to the western tradition (among the most known “Tue s Petrus”, written by Pierluigi Palestrina) and to the Indian tradition, in order to pay homage to Pope Benedict XVI.

A party organized in the garden of the Nunciature followed.
